GETTING TO KNOXVILLE

Knoxville is located in the eastern portion of the South Central region of the U.S., along the Tennessee River, northwest of the Great Smoky Mountain subrange of the Appalachian Mountains. The city may be reached by car, bus, and air.

TRAVEL BY AIR
Knoxville is served by the McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS). This is a regional airport, with direct connections to many major cities in the eastern U.S. International travelers will need to connect at international airports before flying on to Knoxville.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION IN KNOXVILLE
The Hilton Knoxville, the primary conference hotel, and other downtown hotels are approximately 15 miles north of the airport. Downtown Knoxville hotels do not provide shuttle transportation to or from the airport. Transportation to and from the airport is provided by taxis ($35 average minimum cost), which may be hired at the taxi rank at the airport. A list of taxi companies and their phone numbers may be found here.

Most destinations in and adjacent to downtown Knoxville are easily reached on foot. Transportation elsewhere in the city may be reached using city buses, for which schedules and routes may be obtained from the Knoxville Area Transit web site. A regular trolley service runs between downtown Knoxville and The University of Tennessee's campus & Cumberland Avenue shops and restaurants.
